Meet the Maker

 

Hi, I'm Wanshu Li – the founder of W Light Jewellery.

I'm a jewellery designer, maker and educator based in Manchester. With a PhD in Art & Design from Birmingham City University and years of experience exhibiting and teaching internationally, I've always believed that jewellery is about much more than the finished piece – it's about the experience of making it.

I created W Light Jewellery to share that experience with others.

My workshops are designed for complete beginners – no previous jewellery-making experience is needed. Whether you're looking for a creative day out, celebrating a special occasion, or simply want to learn something new, I'll guide you through every step of the process.

I specialise in contemporary silver jewellery with organic forms, subtle textures and timeless simplicity. I love creating pieces that feel natural, tactile and personal – jewellery that reflects the beauty of handmade craftsmanship rather than perfect symmetry.

For me, making jewellery is also a chance to slow down.

Working with silver clay encourages you to focus on the present moment – shaping, carving and refining with your hands – until a soft piece of clay becomes solid silver. It's a creative process that many people find both relaxing and rewarding.

When you join a workshop, you'll leave with more than a handmade piece of jewellery – you'll leave with new skills, wonderful memories and the satisfaction of creating something uniquely yours.
